1991 Shelby SAAC Mk1

Details:
This very unique Shelby belongs to a friend of mine and asked me to send it
through my network for your consideration. He is strongly considering
consigning it to Barrett-Jackson, Scottsdale Jan 2010 so if you have
interest or know of a collector that may be interested let me know asap.
Here is a brief description.
1991 Ford Shelby Mustang SAAC MKI. 1 of ONLY 65 made which include all
prototypes, MK1’s, MK 2’s and Snake cars - extremely rare. This exact car is
lucky #13. It was never used and has ONLY 11 ORIGINAL miles. Always kept in
climate controlled collection entire life. Every one of these were assembled
and built by hand by SAAC Car Company. The first 15 cars had blueprinted
engines such as this one. These are TRUE Shelby cars, all cars were numbered
and are documented in the registry. Some options include GT 40 302 motor
with 295 Hp, 4 wheel HD disc brakes, Tremic 5 speed transmission, black
custom leather interior, roll bar, suspension upgrades, custom built
17”wheels and so much more. 100% untouched, even have original battery and
is in showroom condition with a complete file of documentation right down to
the copy of the check used for the downpayment. These unique Shelbys are why
the SVT dept. was put together and the Cobra and Cobra R’s were made in
1993. This car represents a little know chapter in the Mustang/Shelby
relationship. As this car was described to me at first I had no idea
about these cars and the history prior to the 93 Cobra R. Below is the full
explanation to help you understand more clearly of this rare Shelby. This
truly is a great opportunity for any collector.
These were built by SAAC Car Company (not a tuner) with a possible
production of 250 units predicted and advertised. Each was assembled
individually and by hand. Most of the time because they were built by hand
most of the plastic for the carpeting would have been removed from the
factory. The seats covers were custom made so they did not have any plastic
on them either. The only piece that still does is the shifter knob, it also
has the factory warning card still attached. Every factory chalk mark and
underneath tag is still intact and present as it should be from the factory.
The actual production total was only 65. This included all prototypes, MK
1's, MK 2's and Snakes. To verify this information, you can check the SAAC
Registry as every single one of these cars is on the registry. These cars
were approved by Carroll Shelby and developed with the help of Ford Motor
Co. to introduce the GT40 motor package and get everything through Federal
Emissions Standards in one package as opposed to each piece separately. This
did save Ford money and allowed SAAC Car Company to introduce a proven
dynotested whopping 295 horsepower 302. SVO helped with the rear disc brakes
and other little tricks to help build a really hot Mustang before anybody
but turners built such things. The engine had extensive Ford Motorsport GT40
treatment (Block, Heads, B303 cam, 65mm TB, with GT40 upper and lower
intake).
The initial response for these cars was so strong that Ford took note and
created the SVT department and came out with the Cobra and Cobra R in 1993.
Ford, obviously, could build a car cheaper than any small upstart company
and they did and prematurely ended the production of the Mk 2s and Snakes.
These cars were not cheap at $43,000 and up compared to a 1993 Cobra R at
$28,000. These SAAC cars were a proven 295 Hp compared to 235 Hp the 1993
Cobra R's had. These Shelby SAAC MKI cars are the exact reason the Cobra &
Cobra R's were built.
The MK 1's were built in 1991 and 1992, The MK 2's and Snakes were built in
1993 with some also being convertibles. All cars were numbered and are
documented in the SAAC Registry. These Mustangs are extremely fast and agile
with documentation to prove it. NOTE not many MKI's were made in 1991, even
though this car is #13 it was one of the earliest made. This was made in
Nov. of 1991. There is complete documentation to proof this. I have every
bit of documentation for this rare car down to the copy of the check used to
place the order.
These are a true collector car, which are streetable and as well as being
very fast. A lot of these cars were drive and used but still some were
tucked away put on jack stands or in a bag in a large collection because if
any Mustang is collectable, these are! This car was NEVER driven on a public
highway. This car has only 11 original miles, yes 11 original miles. 9 of
these miles were put on to test the car after it was built. The other 2
miles are from just moving it around the heated garage. This car is 100%
totally untouched and 100% completely ORIGINAL down to the oil filter from
1991. I even have the original battery, which will go with the car,
batteries are the only thing that can't last the storage. You can get it
recored if you would like. This car has ZERO rust not even any surface rust.
It has always been kept in a controlled heated and a/c dry environment all
of its life.
The car is covered and has been in a private collection since new. You very
rarely see any of these cars and also never see them for sale. Yet alone one
that was NEVER used and is in museum condition. Here is a great chance to
own 1 of the rare 65 ever made and one of the first 14 which came with
certain markings from the rest. The first 14 cars had blueprinted and
balanced engines and also had Shelby nameplates on the intake and valve
covers. The interior also had CS embroidered in the custom leather door
panels and seats also on the center caps as well.
Every single SAAC MK1 car was delivered to only one dealer, which was Jack
Demmer Ford in Michigan. You had to be a SAAC member and pull a lot of
strings to be on the list to even own one, also with the fact they were
$15,000+ more than a 1993 Cobra R.
Now this car has the following (normal options) that any Mustang could have
back in 1991 are:
43R power side windows, 525 speed control, 57Q electric rear window, 61A
power equipment group, 903 power lock group, 943 light group, 18C cargo tie
down net, 524 leather wrapped steering wheel, 54J mirrors, elec dual, 572
air conditioning, 677 illum visor vanity mirrors, YO oxford white, 89J black
interior trim.
Now the entire list of SAAC MK1 options that this car has: 1) Unique DSO code,
2) 295 Hp 302 GT40 blueprinted Shelby engine which includes (Block, GT40
heads, GT40 intake, GT40 65MM Throttle body, B303 cam, Shelby underdrive
pulleys, 1.6 roller rockers, Shelby short headers, Shelby aluminum valve
covers and Shelby upper intake nameplate (only on the first 15 cars),
3) strut tower brace,
4) 5 speed manual transmission with Hurst short close ratio shifter.
5) 10.5 HD clutch.
6) optional 3:55 ratio posi rear.
7) 4 wheel large HD disc brakes.
8) HD suspension with Eibach progressive-rate springs, Koni front struts and
rear shocks, Shelby rear sway bar, Shelby large front sway bar, front strut
mtg. plates, Shelby alignment specifications, Shelby export brace.
9) short headers, carry over exhaust, Borla exhaust past cats.
10) factory K N air filter.
11) Shelby SAAC front, rear, side window and steering wheel Badges.
12) Shelby custom leather interior front and rear seats and door panels with
CS on all (only on first 15 cars).
13) SAAC floor mats.
14) Optional Kenwood super sound remote cassette/cd with 8 Kenwood speaker
system.
15) Shelby padded 4 point roll bar.
16) Shelby hood, roof, trunk lid and side stripes.
17) AIR cooled front disk brakes thru front spoiler.
18) 110 lph fuel pump.
19) Interior chassis stiffening brace.
20) 5 lug custom 17 x 7.5 front and 17 x 8 rear 3-piece Simmons wheels with
CS center caps(only on first 15 cars).
21) Goodyear 245-45 R17 tires.
22) Ram air ducts to cool the HD front disk brakes, where front fog lamps
would be on a normal Mustang GT.
23)Shelby production dash and engine compartment serial # plates.
24) SAAC embroidered car cover with embroidered bag
These SAAC MK1 cars had a couple of small options which were available with
the SAAC package for example the standard rear end ration was 3.27 posi,
this car came with the option 3.55 posi rear. A 3.73 was also available as
an option. The stereo was also an option you could get a stereo delete as
well as the standard Ford sound system with am/fm cassette with 6 speakers
or a Kenwood super system remote with 8 speakers, which this car has as
well. Every SAAC MK 1 and MK II came with only a 5 speed transmission. The
1993 Snake cars came with an optional automatic transmission and only the
base model 235HP 302 engine, so the snake cars were not really that big of a
deal but they are still part of the series.
