Comments: Just noticed this website, Well being in my early sixtys,(age) and being the driver of left hand drive since the sixtys I have travelled a good half million miles in left hand drive vehicles in my days and (no) accidents, I can only say I feel and always have safer driving a left hand drive vehicle and still do today,, My late wife drove left hand drive vehicles when thay were near new Reg Numbers FQ3196 and NB669,and NB76 all these cars are still around today and were new once , Safe as a church for over 20 years, No problem for a woman, The newer the car the safer for all New Zealanders and you don,t have to fix them, I know and believe and surely this cannot be hard to comprehend, However what does concern me is there have been two cars that I have noticed in New Zealand that have been conveted to (right hand drive) and writen off on frontals accidents and the air bags have,nt gone off, Now this would( not) happen on a unmodified non coverted vehicles from the factory, Left hand drive cars are safer left alone,,, Julian

Comments: How did they ever come up with the 20 year rule sure that does not make the cars safer, more likely the opposite. just needed to make a rule, millions of dollars have been spent on safety, us changing them around will not help at all leave alone. There are far more left hand drive cars in the world than right hand drives, may be we should get all the rhds here changed to left drive. Wake up you people making stupid rules.

Comments: I drive a left hand drive car and have had them in the past, actually one was my first car when I was seventeen. I never drove like a hoon because I have more respect for American cars and drive very cautiously and safely. I think there is no safety risks in driving a lefty as opposed to a righty, if anything I think they are much safer. This is because you tend to take more care and while driving and you are able to keep more to the left in your lane. It is easier to parallel park and judge turning left corners. Also concerning the yank tanks I would rather be in one of those if an accident did occur because they don't crumple like a tin can. Besides the rule is bogus because you have to convert a car that's 19 years old but not twenty one years old (What's the difference)? LEAVE THEM LEFT...

Comments: Keep them left! By very reluctantly converting my late model Ford to RHD, it is inevitable that I will affect the frontal impact characteristics for the worse, thereby seriously risking the lives of myself and my passengers. I have no problems with LHD vehicles, especially ones driven by enthusiasts. Japan, one of our main supplier of vehicles, allows LHD vehicles, so why should NZ lag behind? Enthusiasts should not have to own and operate a left hand drive vehicle overseas for 90 days or more for it to be allowed to be driven in New Zealand. I have no problems with left hand drive vehicles on NZ roads.
