Taranaki Club Thank You LetterThe following letter of thanks was sent by the Taranaki club President, to the President of the West Australian Mustang Club, following the Taranaki Club attendance at the Australian National Convention. ********************************************** On 29 March 2002, five
Taranaki Mustang Club Members (Graeme Snell, Dave Wharram, Dennis Goble, Dean
Cameron and Noel King) set off for Perth to attend the Australian Mustang
Convention and Concours being hosted by the Western Australia Club at the resort
City of Mandurah. Some of the locals
asked why we would travel across to
Australia to attend an Australian Convention - the
main reasons being most of us would not be able to go for at least another three
years, and because we are the western most club of New Zealand, it was kind of
fitting that we go to the west of Australia. After President Ron
welcomed us on the Friday evening, we were soon swapping stories and Mustang
details with Aussie members, so were made to feel very welcome by some real
friendly people. Saturday gave us time
to catch up after a long flight, and take in some of the local sights before we
visited the registration desk and made some purchases to take home. At the
evening function, we entered into the spirit of things by dressing up in western
attire, and taking part in the auction and quiz, most of us coming away with
something. Sunday saw us spending
the day at the Car Show, and drooling over some exceptional cars - a line up of
9 Boss Mustangs being one of the highlights. After lots of sun and photo’s, we
headed back to get ready for the evenings dinner and prize giving. This was also
a fun occasion, with everybody in formal dress - a new experience for us Kiwi’s at a Mustang Convention. At the close of the formalities, the New Zealander’s presented a trophy to the Western Australia Club. This trophy is made from a piece of rimu (a Native New Zealand Timber), and has a Mustang emblem and plaque mounted on it. The trophy shape signifies the shape of Mt Egmont, an 8500 ft volcano that dominates the province of Taranaki. The Western Australia Club are to retain this trophy and present it at their discretion. From the Taranaki
members point of view, we certainly had an enjoyable and fun time, and wish to
congratulate the Western Australia Club on a successful and well run event, and
to all the Australian members who took the time to welcome us and enable us to
be part of their Convention goes a HUGE thank you. Finally to President
Ron for the work you did with bookings and registrations on our behalf. the only
way we can thank you is to hopefully return the favour when you come with a group
to the New Zealand Mustang Owners Convention in New Plymouth hosted by the
Taranaki Club in October of 2004. Noel King |
